International Conference on Creativity, STEAM, and Maker Education (ICCSM2018)

In the last 50 years, Science and Technology have changed the dynamics of our daily life. We are knee-deep in the information age where artificial intelligence and virtual reality is no longer a thing of the future. The digital age also brought rise to an educational method advocated by prestigious universities such as MIT and Stanford and became part of the Obama’s Educate to Innovate Campaign, a 3 billion dollar initiative funded by 14 federal agencies dedicated to creative learning education programs. The main idea is to increase critical thinking, hands-on learning experiences, and creative learning.

Taiwan has been on the road to incorporate creative education to thrive and compete in knowledge-based economies. The Ministry of Education specifically implemented a series of projects directed to give rise to Taiwan as the “Republic of Creativity”. In result, the White Paper on Creative Education published in 2003. In the past ten years, White Paper Creative Education has continued to spread and positively reinforced in 23 counties in Taiwan. The goal is to establish, implement, and spread knowledge to the public on creative education.

Creative education is imperative to help a country develop and improve in standing from an international context. The goal of holding an international conference is to disseminate the importance of and cultivate global perspective on creative learning. This symposium will provide a platform for scholars to present their research and practical experiences. Thus, combining the fruits of teaching and academic research to enrich future students and educators, alike, with the knowledge to not only challenge but succeed in our technologically driven age through creative learning.
